The Animal Biotechnology Winter School focused on the issue of cell cultures
The ninth annual Animal Biotechnology Winter School 2025 with international participation was held on February 6 at the premises of the National Agricultural and Food Center – Research Institute of Animal Production Nitra. It focused on the issue of basic research and practical application of cell cultures.
The lectures were divided into three sections. The plenary section featured six lectures focused on cell cultures, isolation, cultivation, differentiation, freezing and their practical use. The second section presented four lectures focused on the use of stem cells in medicine and the protection of biodiversity. The third section was dedicated to the issue of „In situ and Ex situ in vivo“ and brought six lectures. The last section was made up of presentations by speakers involved in the joint international project INTERREG HUSK/2302/1.2/018 – Support for cross-border biodiversity protection in „Ex situ“ conditions, said the event’s guarantor, Professor Peter Chrenek.
A total of 68 participants were registered for the event. In addition to domestic speakers from four Slovak institutions and universities, guests from the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Latvia and Italy also presented the current state of the art in the aforementioned issue.
The conference was organized by the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Science and the AgroBioTech Research Center of the Slovak University of Applied Sciences in Nitra in cooperation with the National Agricultural and Food Center – Research Institute of Animal Production Nitra. The opening was also attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Science, Professor Norbert Lukáč.
The tenth year of the winter school is scheduled for February 5, 2026.
